In the Analects of Confucius, it is said that "one inquires into the old and learns the new," and history is also likened to a compass for the future. The Kochi Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore opened in May 1991 at Okahoyozan, Nankoku City, as a comprehensive museum of history in the hope of contributing to the promotion of prefectural culture by studying the footsteps of the people of Tosa and passing on the results to the present ・ and future generations, as well as to create a unique locality that makes the most of tradition. The museum collects and preserves materials in the fields of history ・ archaeology ・ and folklore in the prefecture, and conducts research and surveys, the results of which are widely exhibited through permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions, lectures, exciting work ( children's history classes ) "Exhibition Catalog" and "Research Bulletin". Okahoyoyama ( where the museum is located is the site of the castle of the Chosokabe clan during the Warring States period, and is maintained as the Okahoyoyama Historical Park where visitors can stroll and learn. We hope that our museum will become a place where people can meet with history and a foothold for building a better future.
